Tackling the Dreaded Tax Season

228303_hands_7_money_burned.jpgWhen you’re a freelancer, tax season can make you want to burn your small business to the ground and flee into the woods to live a life of solitary where money doesn’t rule survival. Although this thought returns every year when April nears, I face reality and deal with the dreaded tax season. Words are my thing, not numbers.

Anyway, I thought I would post a friendly reminder about deducting eco-friendly updates. If you have made green changes to your home, don’t forget to include them so you get money back. So think about the past year and whether you have installed solar panels, a composting toilet, etc.

On a side note, if you’re a freelance professional and want to know what you can and cannot deduct as business expenses, check out this helpful tax guide. You should also pick up the latest Writer’s Digest, if you’re a writer, which has an indepth article that answers some big tax questions that might be plaguing your mind.
