Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue in…a Ship of Plastic Bottles?
David de Rothschild created a ship made of more than 12,000 recycled bottles, and he has traveled about 750 nautical miles with his crew. You can follow his Plastiki Expedition on Twitter at @Plastiki. He plans to take the ship 10,000 more nautical miles and land on the shores of Australia. So how are they going to sail this far?
Aboard the ship, there are bicycle generators, solar panels, wind and trailing propeller turbines and other eco-friendly technological devices to help the crew achieve their goal. They even have a hydroponic vertical garden thanks to Inka! Even though the ship is made of plastic bottles, it has some luxurious yet sustainable features.
